GOING A STEP FURTHER TO MITIGATE EMISSIONS

On a quarterly basis, the Sub-fund offers the possibility to mitigate the carbon emissions of the final investment portfolio (scope 1 and scope 2), using carbon credits from the Kasigau Corridor REDD+ project, located in Kenya.

The project aims to protect dryland Kenyan forests under threat by working to secure the migration corridor between the Tsavo East and Tsavo West National Parks and contributes to 13 of the 17 United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals*:

In collaboration with the forest community and landowners, the project is designed to protect over 200,000 hectares of dryland forest and is expected to reduce more than 1 million tonnes of CO2 per year.

Biodiversity tab

The project area is home to an incredibly diverse wildlife population, including critical populations of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List species such as the Grevy’s Zebra and African Wild Dog.

Community tab

The project has created more than 400 jobs, the majority of which filled directly by the local community and is home to over 100,000 people.

Share of proceeds tab

The revenue from carbon credit sales is provided to the Wildlife Works Carbon Trust and is used to fund local community projects. An example is the completion of water infrastructure projects (rain catchments, pipes, etc.) that improved access to clean water for over 100,000 people.
